A Changed Life

Romans 6:4: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Recently I asked a religious individual if he had received Jesus into his heart. He answered a question I had not asked. He said: I am a follower of Jesus. But he was no more a follower of Jesus than the man in the moon. In addition to his unbiblical religion, he was continually involved in heavy-duty sin. There was no delight in his statement. Following Jesus is a changed life. This man*s life was not changed. Following Jesus is not just lip service. It is a change from following something other than Jesus. It is a change of direction. It is having a new leader leading in a new direction. The man had changed his own life somewhat but had continued in sin. The lives of true believers are changed by God. Many follow a false Jesus who has not and does not change lives. I know that I am a follower of Jesus because of the changes HE has wrought in me and in my life direction. I am delighted to be a follower of Jesus.

Matthew 4:19: And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

The man had not become a fisher of men. Have you? Do you pray for the salvation of men and support evangelists who are fishers of men?

Matthew 8:22: But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Matthew 9:9: And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Matthew 16:24: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

The man had not denied himself or taken up a cross. Have you?

Matthew 19:21: Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

The man hung onto his possessions and sinful habits. Have you let go of your sinful life and habits? I believe that one of the major reasons men reject Christ is that they do not want Him changing their lives. One Christian friend told me about her attitude before she got saved: I wanted to run my own life. I wanted to run my own life too. But I have learned that God does a whole lot better job running my life than I can. I am an awful mess when I run my own life.
